The common use of this spice is for cleansing and making the female reproductive organs healthy after childbirth. It does magic for the new mum. In fact, in ala Igbo, once a new child is born, you hardly can visit the house without the aroma of this spice. It helps to flush out toxins from the new mum.

Uda is used for menstrual issues too, especially those with painful menstruation. Some people use Uda with cloves, lemon together to stop menstrual cramps and to detoxify the system.

You just make a simple tea with it. It is said to be very effective in improvement of sexual urge too. However, the seed has the propensity to cause abortion. It shouldn’t be taken by pregnant women because it can cause abortion, miscarriage, or partial abortions, because the seed is spiritual and abhors negative use of it. However, it is used a natural contraceptive.
