Thanks to a surge in Chinese production, solar panels are becoming shockingly affordable. This has led to a unique trend in Europe, with countries like the Netherlands and Germany using them to build fences!
While these fence-panels capture less sunlight than traditional rooftop installations, analysts and social media posts from DIY households suggest a big upside: significant savings on labor and scaffolding costs.
“The dramatic drop in solar panel prices is pushing innovation,” explains Jenny Chase, lead solar analyst at BloombergNEF. “Since installation costs, especially labor and scaffolding, make up a large chunk of rooftop solar systems, using them as fences can be financially attractive.”
