Being ambitious is good but don’t be desperate. Instead say, ‘I have the skills and experience to add value to this role and then back it up with some examples.
Avoid self-praising phrases
It is important to avoid statement like, ‘I am a quick learner, a go-getter and have leadership skills. These buzz words may mean nothing to the hirer. Answer your questions structurally using the STAR method.

- Action
- Result
For example, my company wanted to get more people signed up for their newsletter (Situation). As a digital marketer, I had the task of getting people to sign up (Task). So, I organized a meeting with the marketing team to develop creative ideas, and I led the social media campaign to drive in more sign ups (Action). As a result of all these efforts, there was a 20% increase in sign ups to the monthly newsletter.

Do not speak negative of your past employer

If you do so, it passes a lot of message to the hirer. They will feel you will do same to their company’s image after they employ you. It is better to say, ‘I left company x because I have learnt a lot but I needed to grow further and expand my knowledge’
Avoid asking feedbacks at the end
There is no need to ask the interviewer about your candidacy and performance. Asking for feedbacks is good but, in an interview, its off-putting.
You can say, ‘based on what we discussed, is there anything you would like me to clarify further’
Avoid saying that you do not know
Actually, you are not expected to know everything but the way you respond matters. You can say this, ‘can we come back to that question later because I need a moment to think’ You can also say, ‘I have not worked with tool x but I have used a similar tool called tool y’
Never ask about what the company do?
It is expected that you have already researched about the company before the interview. Instead ask, ‘ask them for their strategic plans for the company in the next two year’
Talk through your answers
While it is important to be courageous, it is also important to talk through your answers to show you are thinking through. This will make your hirer believe that you are not telling an already crammed stories or fake stories. This enhances believability during the interview process.
