The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday, May 4, declared that COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency. This statement was made by the WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, while delivering the Report of the fifteenth meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) Emergency Committee regarding the coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) pandemic, held on Thursday 4 May 2023, from 12:00 to 17:00 CET.

Recall that the virus, which first broke out in China in 2019, killing more than 6.9 million people around the world
Recall that in January 30, 2020, WHO Director-General declared that the virus has become a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) after nearly 10,000 cases were recorded.
However, speaking at a press conference, Tedros declared COVID 19 over. People are happy because they would soon start expecting relieve on travel restrictions while making both local and international trips.
