Facebook Chief Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday announced the parent company’s name is being changed to “Meta” to represent a future beyond just its troubled social network.
Facebook has been the name of the parent company of Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram and Occlus and from now, Meta will be the name of the parent company.
Meta helping to build the metaverse, a place to connect your 2D experience to a place where you will play and connect in 3D.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will keep their names under the rebranding.
It is advised that you do not confuse Facebook as a company and Facebook as a Social Media Platform (app). The name of the Former has been changed to META while the name of the later will remain as Facebook.
“We’ve learned a lot from struggling with social issues and living under closed platforms, and now it is time to take everything that we’ve learned and help build the next chapter,” Zuckerberg said during an annual developers conference.
“I am proud to announce that starting today, our company is now Meta. Our mission remains the same, still about bringing people together, our apps and their brands, they’re not changing,” Facebook Chief added.
